Department of Stage Design

Head: prof. Jan Dušek

The Stage Design Department, founded in 1946 by František Tröster, was the first school of its kind in the world. Conceptually, it was inspired by the German Bauhaus, the Russian avant-garde and the Czech theatre between World War I and II. Currently, the department is an integral part of dramatic education, with certain modifications for theatre, film and television. The Stage design department has expanded in response to general developments in art, and the curriculum includes classes in non-theatrical, modern forms of scenography (e.g. architecture, exhibition and display, multimedia). This specialization is ever-present human activity, and department’s philosophy considers man and space in relation to epochs of time.
